Former New York Knicks Forward Signs With the Miami Heat

NBA free agency has been exciting once again in 2025, and with the regular season just a matter of weeks away, teams are beginning to finalize their rosters. The Miami Heat may now be among those teams after making one final signing, a reunion with a former first-round pick that will bring significant depth to their frontcourt.

After speculation in recent times, the Heat have now officially signed big man Precious Achiuwa to a one-year deal after playing a solid role for the New York Knicks over the past two seasons.

This is a reunion for Achiuwa and the Heat, as he was originally the No. 20 overall pick of the team back in the 2020 NBA Draft, before he departed for the Toronto Raptors shortly into his rookie campaign. Now, he brings fantastic depth behind Bam Adebayo, Kel'el Ware, and Nikola Jovic, with the team looking to be surprising contenders in the wide-open Western Conference.

While he's never managed to find a significant starting role in the NBA, Achiuwa was a great depth piece for the Knicks, averaging 7 points and 6 rebounds per game across 57 games with New York in 2024/25. He's likely not going to play a major role in Miami either, with Ware and Adebayo making up the starting frontcourt, but if injuries strike, the 26-year-old Achiuwa has shown the ability to step up and play a role when he's needed, something that will be crucial in Miami.
