Steve Kerr Reveals His Feelings On Klay Thompson Not Being In Golden State
Dec 26, 2025
Over the past decade, the Golden State Warriors have been the most successful team in the entire NBA, winning four NBA Championships with this incredible core. Stephen Curry and Draymond Green have survived, but there's one piece of that core that hasn't, as Klay Thompson departed for the Dallas Mavericks a season ago.
On Christmas Day, the Warriors and Mavericks matched up in what was a very fun 126–116 victory for Golden State, and unsurprisingly, it brought up many feelings for players in Golden State. After the game and an embrace, Steve Kerr addressed Thompson, unveiling his feelings that Thompson should still be there, even if the front office pushed him out in free agency.
“I'll never get used to seeing Klay on the other side. I miss Klay. Wish he was still here.”
There were no hard feelings between Thompson and Golden State on the way out, and clearly, his longtime head coach misses the second part of the iconic Splash Brothers, the greatest shooting backcourt in the history of the NBA.

Since his departure, the Warriors simply haven't been the same team, and while Thompson has taken a step back individually, there's a good chance that the team could push for a reunion at the trade deadline. Ultimately, Thompson will always be remembered as a key piece of the Warriors' success, and while he won't retire as a one-team player, he will forever be one of the greatest players to ever don the Golden State jersey.
