Atlanta Hawks Shockingly Open To Trading Former Top Pick
Dec 29, 2025
The Atlanta Hawks were just a few moments from the NBA Finals back in 2021, but since that point, they've struggled to recapture that magic, even landing the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. Unfortunately, in the years between Victor Wembanyama and Cooper Flagg, the team didn't have a potentially generational prospect to choose from.
Instead, the team drafted Zaccharie Risacher, and while he's shown potential in his 1.5 seasons in the NBA thus far, it's clear that the team has become disappointed with his output. Across 105 NBA games, Risacher has averaged 12.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.3 assists, and now, the team is seemingly ready to move on from him, according to Marc Stein.
“It is also increasingly believed that Atlanta is willing to surrender Zaccharie Risacher in the proverbial right scenario, since the No. 1 overall pick in the draft just 18 months ago has not developed as the Hawks would have hoped to this point. Yet even if the Hawks are prepared to package Risacher with the expiring contracts held by Kristaps Porziņģis and Luke Kennard for Davis, it is unclear how much additional draft compensation they would be willing (or able) to add to the deal to convince the Mavericks part with Davis in-season.”
While he's got the size, skill, and physical abilities to be a great player at the NBA level, Risacher simply hasn't lived up to any expectations yet, and with the team eyeing Anthony Davis, they could be looking to part ways with him to land the star big man.
