Should the Warriors trade Jimmy Butler and Jonathan Kuminga for this Star?
Oct 24, 2025
The Golden State Warriors are 2–0 and are looking extremely sharp to start the season. Since the addition of Jimmy Butler partway through last season, the Warriors have been a completely different team — better defensively, more dynamic on offense, and a hell of a lot more confident. With solid free agency signings and improvement from young players like Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody, and Brandin Podziemski, the Warriors are primed to have a huge season.
That being said, some believe that the Warriors shouldn’t be satisfied with their current roster. Colin Cowherd of The Herd discussed a possible Warriors trade idea that would certainly shake things up.
"Jimmy Butler is a fling. He's not a phase... I would trade Jimmy Butler, Jonathan Kuminga, and four first-round picks for Giannis [Antetokounmpo]. And see if it's enough [to compete for a title]."
Trading Kuminga, Butler, and a boatload of picks to land Giannis Antetokounmpo is certainly an interesting idea. The Warriors' front office and their fanbase have long dreamed of pairing Curry with Giannis, a match that many believe would be damn near impossible to stop.
However, is it worth trading away two of your most important players and all your picks to get him? The answer is, probably. Giannis is a top-five NBA talent, and players like that don’t grow on trees. If the Warriors have any chance of getting Giannis, they need to take it.

While swapping Butler and Kuminga for Giannis this season might not vastly improve the Warriors' roster, Giannis has the ability to take over the franchise from Stephen Curry in a way that Butler and Kuminga probably can’t.
For now, the Warriors need to stick with what they have. But if a Giannis trade request comes along this season, they should be ready to pounce.
