Minnesota Timberwolves Reportedly Open To Moving Former First-Round Draft Pick
Jan 8, 2026
Back in the 2024 NBA Draft, Rob Dillingham was selected with the No. 8 overall pick, ending up with the Minnesota Timberwolves. While a raw prospect, many saw Dillingham as the future point guard in Minnesota, but in his rookie campaign of 2024–25, he appeared in a total of just 45 games, playing 11 minutes per night.
This season, Dillingham has struggled to take a step forward in just 10 minutes of game time, with the team seemingly not trusting the 21-year-old as they try to make an impact in the Western Conference playoff race. Now, it appears as though his future may be beyond Minnesota, as a new report from Jake Fischer has revealed that the Timberwolves are now open to moving the talented young guard, as they seemingly don't trust him to make an impact for them right now.
“I have heard, by the way, that parting with Dillingham is indeed on the table. The Wolves were certainly aggressive in acquiring the No. 8 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft to select Dillingham, but he simply hasn't been able to fill Minnesota’s playmaking needs as quickly as hoped and could well benefit from a change of scenery.”
In two seasons, Dillingham has averaged four points and two assists per game, and perhaps for a team that's looking for a future point guard, he could be a fit for them, playing 25+ minutes a night.

For now, though, Minnesota has made it clear that Dillingham isn't a key piece of their lineup, and with the team looking for an upgrade, they may use the former first-round pick to get that done.
