Malcolm Brogdon Officially Retires Amidst Battle For Knicks Roster Spot
Oct 15, 2025
Over the past few seasons, Malcolm Brogdon has struggled to stay healthy, and this offseason, he had very few suitors in free agency. However, the veteran guard landed in a very good spot with the New York Knicks, and given their need for a primary ball handler off the bench, he was set up for a big role with the Eastern Conference contenders.
During the preseason, the 32-year-old averaged 4 points, 2 boards, and 2 assists in 13 minutes of action across four games, with many believing he could be a good 11th/12th man for the team this season. However, on Wednesday, he shocked the NBA world, with Shams Charania revealing that Brogdon has officially retired from the NBA just days before the regular season was set to begin.
This came as a shock to those within the Knicks organization as well as the wider NBA community, but after playing in fewer than 70 games over the past two seasons, injuries are clearly catching up to him. At 32 years of age, Brogdon appeared in 463 games across his career in Milwaukee, Boston, Washington, and Indiana, with his crowning achievement being the 2023 NBA Sixth Man of the Year award.
Ultimately, Brogdon was set up for a major role with the Knicks in 2025–26, but for whatever reason, he has decided to walk away from the game after nine successful seasons, and now we wait to see what the future holds for Brogdon.
