Dallas Mavericks Reportedly Weighing Up the Idea Of Extending Anthony Davis
Dec 10, 2025
The Dallas Mavericks 2025/26 season has turned around a little in recent times, but with a record of 9-16, it's safe to say that this isn't what anyone quite expected. The main drama surrounding this team has been Anthony Davis, who has spent much of the season sidelined due to injury, with question marks continuing over his ability to stay healthy.
In 25 games, Davis has appeared in just 10, but has averaged a very solid 20 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists in that time as he shows when healthy, he can be a key piece in leading a team to success. However, the Mavericks have been expected to trade him at some point this season, with the organization instead seeing the benefits of building around Cooper Flagg for the future.
That may not be guaranteed anymore, as ESPN's Shams Charania has now reported that they are heavily considering signing Davis, who is under contract for one more year before a player option kicks in, to a long-term extension.
Most have expected the team to trade Davis this season, but if he spends the rest of the season proving he can stay healthy and performing, it's most likely that this off-season is the time to make that big decision.

Ultimately, this only further supports the idea that he will remain in Dallas for this season, with a decision set to be made in the summer, but given that he's already 32-years of age and very injury prone, this move would come with immense risk.
