Kristaps Porzingis Talks His Relationship With Luka Doncic

Kristaps Porzingis recently talked about his relationship with former teammate Luka Doncic, saying that it is pretty normal.

The Dallas Mavericks knew by the end of his first season that they had a superstar in Luka Doncic. After that point, the team did its best to build a championship-level team around him.

The Mavericks felt they scored a coup in 2019 when they acquired Kristaps Porzingis from the New York Knicks. A seven-foot-two center with endless range, the Latvian star seemed like a perfect running mate for Doncic.

When Porzingis was on the court with Doncic, things looked great. The problem was that injuries caused the center to miss a fair amount of games. He only appeared in 57 and 43 games over his first two years in Dallas.

The two men have achieved plenty with their own teams. Doncic has made five appearances on the All-NBA First Team. Porzingis was traded from Dallas to Washington in 2022, and he would later sign with the Boston Celtics as a free agent.

Porzingis' Boston team and Doncic's Dallas team met in the 2024 NBA Finals, which Boston won. The two players have also been traded in the last year with Porzingis now on Atlanta and Donic with the Lakers. When asked about their relationship, Porzingis said:

" I have a normal relationship with Luka Doncic. Of course, the time in Dalles didn't work out. it's a chapter that over. Since then, we’ve met a lot – the Celtics and the Mavericks faced each other in the Finals last year. In the European context, it seems like we haven’t played since 2017."
