Kevin Durant Reflects on What Went Wrong in Phoenix
Feb 10, 2026
The Phoenix Suns tried to contend over the last few years with a “Big Three” experiment of putting Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal, and Devin Booker together to try to win an NBA Championship. For all intents and purposes, the experiment was a complete disaster. With that core, the Suns never made it out of the second round of the playoffs. The Suns traded away almost all of their assets to make a run for it and failed.

Kevin Durant recently spoke about his time with the Suns and where he thinks things went wrong.
“I’ve always had fun out there. I don’t want to undercut what we did during my time in Phoenix, because I feel like I had some great moments on the court there, too. But I feel like we were an older group that was kind of stuck in our ways as veterans, and veterans kind of do their own thing a lot. When you’re with a younger group, it’s more tight-knit. They’re all learning together. It has more of a college feel, and I think that’s the difference.”
A lot of people believed that chemistry was one of the things that went wrong with the Big Three era in Phoenix. It never seemed like the team really enjoyed playing with one another, and if that’s the case, it is really hard to win games in the stacked Western Conference.
Durant has always been a bit of a question mark when it comes to locker room chemistry. Since leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder, it seems like he’s had some locker room drama everywhere he’s been. There’s already some rumbling about Durant’s attitude being noticed in Houston. Could Durant be the problem?
