Al Horford Says His Biggest Surprise Playing With Stephen Curry

Stephen Curry and Al Horford have been opponents for most of their careers. They’ve even faced off in some huge battles between rival teams. When Horford was on the Hawks, the Warriors and Hawks were the two best teams in the league and had some thrilling regular-season battles. Then Horford played on the Celtics in the 2022 NBA Finals, where Curry stopped him from grabbing his first NBA championship.

Now they are teaming up in the Golden State in hopes of winning together.

Horford recently spoke about what it has been like playing with Curry and what has surprised him about watching one of the greatest players of all time up close.

“Man, just the amount of times that the dude gets fouled and grabbed. I feel like there’s always a point of emphasis about freedom of movement, and when I wasn’t his teammate, I didn’t see him enough to know. But the way that (defenders) grab him and hang onto him and pull him constantly, if that’s happening to any other guy, they’re calling those fouls, but with him, I guess you can’t call it every time. But there are like ways, right? Certain guys you’re able to grab a little bit, but with him it’s like they’re hugging, holding his chest, pulling him; it’s constant.”

Horford is just like the rest of the Warriors fans now. For years, the Warriors fans and organization have been wondering why Stephen Curry seems to be refereed in a different way than other players in the league. When Horford was battling against Curry, I’m sure he took full advantage of this. Now, he is shocked at just how egregious the fouls are.
