Tyrese Haliburton Gives an Injury Update on Torn Achilles
Feb 9, 2026
The Indiana Pacers were one of the best stories in the NBA last season. They went from being a solid playoff team to a real NBA title contender and shocked everyone by bringing the Oklahoma City Thunder into a Game 7 in the NBA Finals.
Everyone knows what happened from there. Tyrese Haliburton tore his Achilles tendon in the first half of the game, and the Thunder went on to win the first championship in their franchise’s history.

This season, the Thunder are continuing to dominate, and the Pacers, without Haliburton, are one of the worst teams in the league. Haliburton recently spoke about his injury recovery in an interview on NBA on Prime.
"I think physically it's good for me that the organization ruled me out really early before the season. So, I don't feel a pressure or anything to come back and play, you know, right now. Obviously, the goal is to continue to attack my rehab and get to the point where, at the end of the season, I'm in a space where I would be able to come back. But if it's not beneficial for me and my body and our group, there's no sense of it. But, I feel really good."
This is exactly where the Pacers want Haliburton to be. The Pacers aren’t winning anything this year and have some serious incentive to continue to lose games. They also have an incentive to allow Haliburton more than enough time to fully recover.
So they can sit back, lose games, and let Haliburton get himself as close to his previous form as he possibly can. Then, next season, hopefully armed with a high lottery pick and some other new pieces, they can attempt to march their way back to the NBA Finals.
