Coby White Talks About Joining His New Team

Tons of players around the NBA are adjusting to their new teams. With dozens of players traded this NBA trade deadline, almost every team in the league has at least one new guy who is trying to figure out their place both on and off the court with their new team. Some players might not be around for more than a few months with their new teams. Some might send year-long extensions.

Coby White is one of those players. The Chicago Bulls traded White because they didn’t think of him as a long-term piece for their future. The Charlotte Hornets will have to make a decision on if they want to sign White to an extension.

White spoke recently of his experience being traded mid-season.

“As soon as I touched down, I felt wanted,” White told The Charlotte Observer. “I called my family, and I’m like, ‘Everybody here is just super-welcoming and super-nice. And they keep talking about long term, long term, long term. And just hearing that somewhere where you’re valued for the long term, especially being back home, it means a lot.”

Even though the Hornets are indicating to White that he is part of their long-term plans, that certainly isn’t guaranteed.

It has been revealed that White is actually recovering from a calf injury, something that the Hornets weren’t completely aware of. They got a second-round pick back due to this being flagged on White’s physical.

Still, White should return this season and can prove himself in his new uniform. If he plays well, the Hornets will be more than happy to sign him. If he struggles for whatever reason, White, like many other players traded at the deadline, may end up being a short-term rental.
