After Trade to Washington, Anthony Davis Has Questions About the Wizards' Plans
Feb 9, 2026
It’s one thing for fans and analysts to question why the Washington Wizards pulled off a trade to acquire Anthony Davis. It’s another thing for Davis himself to question the direction of his new team moving forward.
In an interview with David Aldridge of The Athletic, Davis made some interesting comments about the Wizards organization, who gave up four players and draft picks in exchange for the 10-time All-Star and three shock troopers from the Dallas Mavericks.
While AD said some pleasantries that were typical of any star acquisition (“They definitely welcomed me with open arms”), he also expressed his curiosity in the Wizards’ next steps to becoming a more viable playoff threat.
“I need to talk with Will, Ted, Zach, and kind of figure out what the actual plan is, and then just kind of go from there,” Davis said, referring to key figures in the Wizards organization (GM Will Dawkins, owner Ted Leonsis, and alternate governor Zach Leonsis).
Sounding like a grizzled veteran who’s been through some wars in his career, Davis admitted that he’s had his fair share of promises made by team executives over the years. “Obviously, at this time, every year, you want to compete for championships and stuff like that…I've been everywhere the last two years. I want to see the plan, hear the plan, see the vision.”
It might be a stretch (or even an insult) to call the highly decorated Davis a “journeyman,” but his resume does reveal a well-traveled athlete over the past 14 years. Davis went from exciting young upstart in New Orleans to pivotal no. 2 option on a LeBron James-led Lakers squad, which won an NBA title in 2020. AD then found himself in the biggest trade of the decade when he was dealt to the Dallas Mavericks in the Luka Doncic deal.

Davis played just 29 games with the Mavs before landing with the Wizards last week. He has earned the right to say “been there, done that,” and as such, the one-time NBA champion is well within his rights to ask for the Wizards’ blueprint moving forward.
