JJ Redick Talks About His Bad Habits During NBA Season

The NBA season is a grind. 82 games, all over the US and Canada, with little time to ever catch your breath. NBA players, coaches, and staff members rarely get a break during the NBA season, and the stress and travel can take its toll. JJ Redick recently spoke about how his life changes during the season and about the sacrifices he needs to make.

“There’s a 4 burner theory. When you’re trying to achieve something, there’s four burners on the stove. And those four burners are: work, health, family, and friends. And it’s very hard to have all four burners going.

For me, in season, it’s work and family. Unfortunately, I don’t really get to see friends outside of the people I work with and my family. So my health sucks. The last five years I haven’t done a lot to do that. And I’ll admit that.

Watching him, it actually probably makes me feel like a loser. And every time he falls on the ground, has a box out — I feel it too.”

JJ Redick recognizes how hard it is to balance everything in the middle of an NBA season. He had to do it as a player, and now he’s trying to do it as a coach. Yet, while JJ has had years of experience trying to perfect this balance, he tips his cap to LeBron James, who makes it all look easy.

That’s part of LeBron’s greatness. Sure, on the court he has been incredible. However, it’s his ability to seemingly balance all the other important parts of life that makes what he has done over the last two decades truly impressive.
