ESPN Insider Reveals Likely Landing Spot For Russell Westbrook in Free Agency

Russell Westbrook is coming to the end of his NBA career, but as we saw in 2024/25, he can still be a very productive player on a contending team. In his first season with the Denver Nuggets, Westbrook averaged 13 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds, but with the new season rapidly approaching, he is yet to find a new contract.

There have been rumours linking Westbrook back to the Nuggets and even the Oklahoma City Thunder, but now ESPN's Tim McMahon has noted that the Sacramento Kings are the favourite to land the former MVP.

“League sources consider the Sacramento Kings the most likely destination for Westbrook, who will turn 37 during the first month of the season. If that's the case, Westbrook would likely come off the bench again and share ballhandling duties with free agency addition Dennis Schroder.”

At 36-years of age, Westbrook clearly isn't a starter anymore, with McMahon noting that he would share the ball handling duties with veteran Dennis Schroeder if he lands in Sacramento as they look to get back to the NBA Playoffs.

Currently, the Kings have one of the more intriguing rosters in the NBA, with Schroeder, Zach Lavine, DeMar Derozan, Keegan Murray and Domantas Sabonis making up their top-five, with Keon Ellis and other talented names rounding out the roster. This leaves many questioning why they would need Westbrook, but given that he can still contribute, if they believe they're a playoff threat, don't be shocked to see them sign Westbrook before training camp begins.
