Trae Young Not Expected To Discuss Extension with the Hawks this Off-Season

Earlier this offseason, it was surprisingly revealed that the Atlanta Hawks and Trae Young had not yet had talks on a massive extension that he is now eligible for. Reportedly, that frustrated the 26-year-old superstar point guard, with his future in Atlanta now potentially up in the air heading into free agency in the summer of 2026.

This comes off the back of a season in which Young posted 24 points and 12 assists a night, once again proving he's one of the best guards in the entire NBA. However, recent reports have now revealed that he's not interested in a potential extension with the team, as Jake Fischer has reported that the two parties are not expected to talk extension during the offseason.

That doesn't mean that Young isn't open to a potential deal eventually, with the two parties clearly having love and respect for one another, but as of right now, he's not expected to change his mind and begin negotiating with the Hawks front office this offseason.

From the moment he arrived in the NBA, Young has been a star for the Hawks, with the crowning moments of his career being an NBA Cup Finals run in 2024-25 as well as the Eastern Conference Finals run back in 2021. Unfortunately, the team's success has dwindled in recent years despite Young remaining incredibly consistent, and now we will simply wait and see how things play out as the 26-year-old looks to get paid some of the historic money that his peers are getting.
