Young NBA Star Helps Crown Home Country As 2025 FIBA EuroBasket Champion

The 2025 FIBA EuroBasket Championship game was one to remember. Team Germany and Team Turkey faced off in a back-and-forth battle that came down to the wire. Germany held a late lead with the help of some clutch buckets from Dennis Schröder, and eventually took home the gold with an 88-83 victory.
While Schröder was the hero and got MVP honors, Germany was also led by young NBA star Franz Wagner.
Wagner was named to the tournament’s All-Star Five, the five best players of the tournament.
“A true all-around machine, Wagner once again proved that Schröder and he make one of the best dynamic duos in the world. Always a major triple threat from the forward position, Wagner produced when it was most needed with 23 points against Slovenia in the tough quarterfinals matchup, also coming up with 18 points and 8 rebounds in the Final. At the end, his averages tally up to 20.8 points, 5.9 boards, and 3.4 dimes per game.”

Averaging over 20 points per game for the tournament is quite impressive. On top of that, Wagner is only 24 years old and looks ready to continue to carry the mantle as Team Germany’s most important player.
In the NBA, Wagner is the second star on the up-and-coming Orlando Magic. Last season, he saw his scoring average jump from 19.7 points per game to 24.2. He also had career highs in rebounds and assists.
Wagner’s performance in the 2025 FIBA EuroBasket tournament shows that he is still improving and could be an even more formidable player next season. However, after averaging 24.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game, how much more room for improvement is there? Time will tell, but this EuroBasket tournament was a good indicator that the sky may be the limit for Wagner.
