Detroit Pistons Reportedly Keeping Roster Spot Open for Troubled Malik Beasley
Aug 12, 2025
The Detroit Pistons took a huge step forward in 2024/25, and after taking the Knicks to the limit in the playoffs, the future is looking very bright. The team has added some intriguing pieces this offseason, and with one roster spot left open, they appear to have a plan for that as well.
According to NBA insider Brett Siegel, they are keeping that spot open for Malik Beasley, a player that starred for them down the stretch in 2024/25, as he scored a solid 14 points per game in that postseason series with New York.
As of now, though, there are major off-the-court issues that are holding Beasley back from returning to the NBA next season, as he has been a part of an FBI investigation into sports betting during his time with the Milwaukee Bucks. Currently, there isn't much of an update on the situation, but after what happened to Jontay Porter with the Toronto Raptors, it's safe to say that Beasley may not see the NBA floor again.

In his one season with Detroit, Beasley put up 16 points a night on 41% shooting from beyond the arc, coming second in NBA Sixth Man of the Year voting, and if he is cleared of his off-court issues, he will be a very effective player once again for Detroit. However, the issues are something that could potentially end his NBA career, so while the Pistons are keeping a spot open for the veteran depth piece, there's a good chance that we may not see him in the NBA ever again.
