Dallas Rookie Shows Maturity in Quote About Fellow Star Teammate
Oct 13, 2025
The Dallas Mavericks need a new franchise cornerstone. They cut ties with Luka Doncic last season in what could be considered one of the most inexplicable trades in NBA history. While they did pick up Anthony Davis in the deal, he isn’t reliable enough to carry a franchise for the next decade.
That’s why when the Mavericks landed Cooper Flagg in the lottery, it was a gift to give them another chance.

Everyone is saying Flagg is one of the most complete prospects to enter the NBA in a long time. In fact, many think that Flagg’s teammate, Anthony Davis, is the last prospect to enter the league so polished on both ends of the floor.
However, Flagg isn’t just polished on the court. He’s also shown incredible maturity during his media interviews, showing that he is much wiser than what you might expect from an 18-year-old.
Flagg spoke after the Mavericks preseason game about how he wants to get A.D. more involved.
“I gotta find ways to help A.D. more, play off him a little better. Help him impact the game when he’s posting up, getting his isos. So I gotta find a way to help him a little bit more, but I think it’s been huge trying to fit together.”
Having a rookie talking about how he needs to help get a ten-time All-Star more involved in the offense is impressive. Usually, it’s the other way around: the championship veteran is worrying about getting the rookie better looks.
This quote speaks to the maturity and leadership that Flagg already possesses. A rookie to be worrying about the team chemistry and how the pieces fit together is a great sign. The Mavericks may have their new superstar and leader for the future… and he’s only 18!
