Dallas Mavericks Reportedly Set To Explore Trade Market for Klay Thompson
Nov 10, 2025
In the summer of 2024, Klay Thompson was a massive signing for the Dallas Mavericks, as the long-time Splash Brother left the Golden State Warriors for the first time in his lengthy NBA career. Unfortunately, Thompson's time in Dallas hasn't been as impressive as some had hoped, as he shot 39% from beyond the arc and averaged 14 points a night, falling from 18 and 22 in his prior two seasons.
The 2025/26 season has been even worse for the veteran, however, as he is shooting just 26% from three, averaging just under 8 points a game. On top of that, the Mavericks are struggling mightily, and with Cooper Flagg as the future of the organization, that may lead to the team changing directions moving forward.
According to Brett Siegel, that could involve trading Thompson, as the belief around the NBA right now is that the team will explore the possibility of trading him ahead of the 2026 deadline.
Thompson is currently on an expiring contract, so while some teams may believe they can turn him around and get the old Klay Thompson back, others could look at taking on his salary in an expiring deal ahead of the big free agency classes in 2026 and 2027.

With his reputation, there's likely going to be plenty of interest in Thompson as a bench piece around the league, but given his struggles this season, only time will tell whether or not the Mavericks can get anything back for the veteran.
