Chris Paul Brought a Surprise Teammate in To Plead His Case to Stay a Clipper

The entire Chris Paul-Los Angeles Clippers saga keeps getting crazier. Ramona Shelburne of ESPN just released a story revealing tons of new details on exactly what happened between Paul and the Clippers organization.
What we know now is that this reunion was doomed from the beginning. Paul tried to bring the team together and be the leader that he knows how to be. The Clippers didn’t enjoy his presence and found him annoying and demanding.

When Lawrence Frank brought Paul in to let him know the Clippers were going to be asking him to head home, Paul tried to bring in one of his teammates to convince Frank he was wrong.
“Around 11 p.m., inside Frank's hotel room at the Four Seasons, he told Paul of the team's plans to send Paul home, adding that he hoped to work with Paul on how the statement would be announced and that he hoped the team could still retire Paul's jersey one day, sources said. Paul was stunned, sources said, and tried to plead his case. At one point, he brought teammate Brook Lopez into the room as something of a character witness. Lopez and Leonard were Paul's most ardent supporters on the team, sources said. Paul reminded Frank that he'd asked him to facilitate another meeting with Lue, and that hadn't happened. Frank acknowledged that, but held firm. The decision had been made.”
This is just sad. Multiple players on the team had no problem with Paul, but enough of the key players and coaches did that it didn’t matter. Hopefully, Paul can find a home before the season ends so his retirement tour can continue.
