Stephen Curry Raves About Gui Santos and His New Contract Extension

When you are the leader of a team and organization, everything reflects on you. Did the recent draft pick not work out? Maybe it was because you didn’t help lead them well enough. Is there friction between players in the locker room? Maybe you didn’t create the right environment for team building.

However, when things go right, you have to take a little personal credit. Or at least have some pride. 

For the Golden State Warriors, Gui Santos’ story is one that everyone can be proud of. Gui was almost not even drafted, he was the 55th overall pick in 2022. Then the Santos spent years developing, becoming a fan favorite, and now an essential part of the team. 

Curry recently spoke about Gui’s journey and how proud he is to see his teammate sign a long-term contract extension with the team. 

“It’s such an amazing story. He was so happy just to be on an NBA team at one point, and now he’s a big part of our rotation, really developing and becoming an impactful player on both ends of the floor. And being rewarded with that type of security, coming from where he came from, it’s a big deal. It’s a big celebration today for him pregame. I know as we get into the playoff chase, hopefully he’ll continue to prove his value there.”

For Curry, having players like Gui in the rotation is huge. Gui has the intangibles. He fights for offensive rebounds, works hard on defense, and above all, he understands his role. For stars like Curry to thrive, they need role players around to do the little things that make the stars life easier. That’s exactly what Gui Santos does.
