Veteran Point Guard Likely Won't Report To The Washington Wizards Following Trade
Feb 9, 2026
The 2026 NBA trade deadline has officially come and gone, and while the expected Giannis Antetokounmpo blockbuster never came to fruition, it was a hectic period for the NBA with plenty of massive trades indeed happening. One of those deals saw the Dallas Mavericks deal Anthony Davis, just a year after the team acquired him in the most shocking deal in NBA history as they dealt superstar Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Now, he has been moved on again, as he was dealt to the Washington Wizards in a deal involving nine players on three teams, joining Trae Young, who was also acquired by the Wizards this season. In that deal, D'Angelo Russell also went to the Wizards, but now, it appears as though he's not likely to play in Washington, as he is not going to report to the team just yet.
That doesn't mean he's 100% decided on his future, but for now, Russell is reportedly waiting to hear what the front office has in store for him before he makes his decision on reporting to the team or not.

This season, Russell appeared in just 26 games for the Mavericks, averaging 10 points and 4 assists in that time, but at 29-years of age, he's unlikely to be a long-term piece for the Wizards. Ultimately, this could lead to a potential buyout from the Wizards, but until something is made official, there's no telling just how things will play out in this situation.
