"Y'all Got A Lacrosse Player Playing Over Me": Jeff Teague Comments On Jonathan Kuminga Situation

Jonathan Kuminga may have crossed the point of no return when he publicly demanded a trade from the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday. One analyst weighed in on the situation by saying that Kuminga’s departure from the Bay Area has been long overdue.

“It was time in the summer,” Jeff Teague said on Wednesday’s edition of the “Club 520” podcast. One can’t help but hear a tone of exasperation from the player-turned-podcaster, as he and his buddies have been conversing about a potential Kuminga move for months, if not years.

This time, though, Teague feels like the Warriors have disrespected the 6-foot-7 forward by deprioritizing him in the rotation, at times. “Y’all got a lacrosse player playing over me,” Teague pointed out.

The lacrosse player in question is Pat Spencer, a 6-foot-2 guard who is on a two-way contract with the Warriors. Before his lone season of college hoops at Northwestern University, Spencer spent four years playing lacrosse at Loyola, becoming the all-time leader in assists in Division I history.

Though Spencer’s numbers are a far cry from Kuminga’s stat line (11.8 ppg, 6.2 rpg in 24.8 mpg), he’s had his moments to shine this season. In early December, Spencer had a career-high 19 points to go along with four rebounds and seven assists in a victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

After a prolific start to the season, Kuminga has seen his numbers dip as Warriors head coach Steve Kerr continues to figure out his role on the team. While the former lottery pick’s trade value was at an all-time high in previous months, the Warriors nevertheless have good reason to move on from the 23-year-old.

Wednesday, in fact, marked the start of Kuminga’s trade eligibility. With the trade deadline just three weeks away, the Warriors have entered a brief window of opportunity to finally make a move with the youngster. The rumor mill has already floated the Los Angeles Lakers and the Dallas Mavericks as teams that potentially have interest in acquiring his services.

At the very least, if Kuminga ends up getting traded to either of those teams, he might not have to be outshone by a former lacrosse player.
