SGA Talks About Enjoying the Clutch Moments in Basketball

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander sometimes seems too cool for school. Even when his team won the NBA championship, SGA didn’t seem to have much of a reaction. He carries himself with a calm and cool demeanor that some argue is part of the reason he is so great.

That’s because the big moments don’t scare SGA. In fact, he seems to love them. When the game is coming down to the wire, SGA seems to take his game to another level. He loves to have the ball in his hands to decide the game, and never shies away from big moments.

SGA spoke about this recently, talking about how much he enjoys playing clutch basketball.

“It’s just winning time. You play the whole 48 minutes to win a game. The final minutes are the minutes that you can have the biggest imprint, have the biggest moment and close the game out when clock is winding down. I’m just confident in my ability. Whether the ball is going in or out, I know I’ve worked hard enough to be on the right side of the makes and misses over the course of time.”

Part of what makes SGA so unflappable is his confidence. When the game is on the line, some of the other stars in the league seem to freeze up or slow down. For SGA, that’s when he thrives the most.

Fortunately for the Thunder, they rarely need to take advantage of SGA’s clutch skills. With the most dominant team in the league for the last few seasons, they play very few clutch games. They are usually winning by double-digits while SGA gets to rest.
