Russell Westbrook Passes Magic Johnson With Recent Milestone

Despite not finding a new team as a free agent until late in the 2025 summer, Russell Westbrook has once again found his footing in the NBA. While he's no longer the player that he once was, Westbrook has gone about proving that he's still got it, and even at 37 years of age, he's contributed at a very high level in 2025–26.

Through 32 games, Westbrook is averaging 15 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists per game, proving that he's still a very good player in the league. Now, he's made more history, as he recently tallied assist No. 10,153, and in doing so, he passed Magic Johnson on the NBA's all-time assist leaderboard, now making it to No. 7 in league history.

Next on that list is the duo of Mark Jackson and Steve Nash with 10,334 and 10,335, respectively, and given the high level that Westbrook continues to play at, it's highly likely that he can find another 200 assists before his career is done. Following that at No. 4 is LeBron James, who continues to climb as well, and while Westbrook may never quite reach that level, he's already cemented himself as an all-time great.

Whether or not you like him, Westbrook is a former MVP, an all-time great, and arguably the best triple-double threat in NBA history, and the further he climbs up lists like this, the more he'll be seen as one of the greatest point guards to ever play the game.
