Kevin Durant On Team USA In 2028? Rich Paul Thinks It Can Happen
Dec 29, 2025
To date, Kevin Durant is the barometer for the United States’ men’s basketball team, as he has captured four Olympic gold medals in his illustrious career. When Durant helped Team USA emerge as the number-one team in Paris last year, many wondered if they had seen the last Olympic game that KD would ever play in.
Rich Paul, however, thinks that the world will see more of Durant on the Olympic stage. At the very least, the Klutch Sports CEO sees Durant putting on the Team USA jersey one more time.
Paul expressed this view in a recent episode of the “Game Over” podcast. When his co-host Max Kellerman speculated that Durant, LeBron James, and Steph Curry would not be part of the Team USA roster in the 2028 Olympics, Paul begged to differ, saying that one of those basketball icons could still suit up in Los Angeles.
“You can’t say that about KD,” Paul insisted. “I’ve never seen someone love to hoop more than that guy. He can still shoot, so…”
Indeed, Durant’s passion for the game could help him transcend the limits of his physical shell by the time the 2028 Olympics come around. At that time, the former NBA Finals MVP will be pushing 40 (or, as Kellerman jokingly said, “a hundred years old”), which means that he might be dealing with a decline in his speed and durability when Team USA begins finalizing its lineup.
Much is at stake, of course, in that particular tournament. Aside from the fact that it would be held on the Americans’ home soil, a number of other elite teams have been raring to get to the summit of Olympic hoops after all these years. The likes of a Victor Wembanyama-led French squad and a dangerous Serbian team featuring Nikola Jokic would be happy to knock Team USA off its perch, on its own turf, no less.

Will Durant play another Olympic cycle and win an unprecedented fifth gold medal to add to his Olympic legacy? Ultimately, he can rest on his abundance of laurels, or he can follow in the footsteps of his good buddy LeBron James and defy expectations for aging all-time greats.
