Mark Cuban Reveals His Regrets In Selling The Dallas Mavericks
Mar 31, 2026
While some recognize him from hit shows such as Shark Tank, for the most part, Mark Cuban is known to many as the revolutionary owner of the Dallas Mavericks, whom he purchased back in 2000. From that point, he helped transform the franchise into one of the best in the entire NBA, that is until he sold his share in the organization back in December of 2023.
He retained a 27% minority in the Mavericks when doing so, but in just a few short years, things changed significantly without him in charge. The biggest move of course game from General Manager Nico Harrison, who, at the approval of ownership, traded franchise face Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in a very underwhelming deal.
In the aftermath, there has been speculation that he wants to buy the team back, and while that's not yet happened, he has now opened up on the regret of selling the team to who he did.
“I don't regret selling. I regret who I sold to… I made a lot of mistakes in the process, and I'll leave it at that.”
Clearly Cuban was ready to move on from the Mavericks, and while he continues to state that selling was the right move, it appears as though he believes he made a mistake in doing it the way he did.

Only time will tell whether or not Cuban wants to buy a majority in the Mavericks organization once again, but as of right now, he's still not happy with the way things went down.
