Golden State Warriors Open To Massive Extension This Summer
Mar 30, 2026
The Golden State Warriors have been the NBA's last dynasty to date, and without an NBA Championship since 2022, we may have seen the last of them as genuine contenders already. With Steph Curry around however, the organization believe they can still be highly competitive, and that's led them to making blockbuster moves such as acquiring Jimmy Butler at the 2025 trade deadline.
This past deadline, things were much quieter for the Warriors, but one move that had the NBA raving was the deal to acquire former top pick Kristaps Porzingis, who provides true rim protection, something this Warriors team desperately needed. In 11 games with Golden State, Porzingis has averaged 18 points, 5 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game, and while he's on the older side, he's clearly a great fit for this team, especially when Curry is healthy.
However, he is a pending free agent in the summer of 2026, and according to reports from Marcus Thompson, the two sides are expected to work out a deal before he makes it to free agency.
On paper, Porzingis is a very good player, and while he's not the difference maker he once was early in his NBA career, he's a great fit for the Warriors, with an extension making sense for both parties.

Ultimately, if the Warriors are to contend in 2026/27, they'll need Porzingis' rim protection and his ability to shoot from deep, and while they'll need much more to go their way, he's a piece that could genuine help in a big way.
