Kawhi Leonard's Contract Issue Could Lead This Big Star To The Clippers
Mar 31, 2026
This past summer, one of, if not the biggest storyline involving the NBA was Kawhi Leonard and the shady dealings that saw him sign his contract with the Los Angeles Clippers. The NBA have been investigating the situation, and while no punishment has been handed down yet, many expect his contract to be voided following all of the allegations surrounding the situation.
Despite playing at an MVP level for much of the 2025/26 campaign, this could force Leonard out of Los Angeles, and if that is the case, the Clippers will find themselves going big game hunting this off-season. That's led to a new report from ESPN, who have stated that if this is the way things go down, people around the league believe LeBron could fill the void in LA and sign with the Clippers in the off-season.
“Several team personnel around the league speculated that if the NBA's investigation into Kawhi Leonard's Aspiration endorsement deal ended up with Leonard's contract being voided as a punishment, James could sign with the Clippers for more than the Lakers would offer him.”
If this happens, it would be a massive shift for the Clippers, who made some changes to the organization at the deadline this season before turning things around in recent times. Ultimately, at this stage of their careers, James isn't at the level of Leonard, but if the Clippers lose arguably the biggest star that they've ever had, replacing him with a 41-year old James could certainly be an interesting option.
