Jaylen Brown Declares Himself Front Runner For MVP In Latest Comments

The Boston Celtics were meant to struggle in 2025–26 following the loss of Jayson Tatum in the postseason a year ago, but with Jaylen Brown leading the way, they're once again an elite team in the East. With a record of 27–16, the Celtics sit in second place in the Eastern Conference standings, and with Tatum potentially returning before season's end, this team could be a major threat once more.

The biggest reason why the Celtics have found success this season is Jaylen Brown, who has stepped up as the sole leader of this team, averaging 30 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists thus far. Unsurprisingly, he's incredibly confident in the way he's been playing, and in his recent comments, he seemingly declared himself the league MVP.

“I don’t care who you say right now; ain’t nobody doing it better than me right now.”

On paper, Brown is having an incredible, career-best season, and while many have Shai Gilgeous-Alexander or Nikola Jokic as the frontrunners for MVP, it's hard to argue with Brown's self-belief given the way he has played. Derrick White and Payton Pritchard have both stepped up around Brown as well, and if Tatum can come back, this is a team that could be a genuine title threat in the East.

Ultimately, Brown deserves all the credit in the world for the way he's taken his game to new heights in 2025–26, and while he likely isn't going to win MVP this season, that doesn't mean he shouldn't be in the conversation moving forward.
