Giannis Antetokounmpo's Time In Milwaukee Reportedly Coming to an End
Jan 22, 2026
For years now, Giannis Antetokounmpo has been the face of the Milwaukee Bucks franchise, carrying them to their first NBA Championship in 50 years back in 2021. On top of that, he's a two-time MVP, and across 13 seasons with the team, he's done absolutely everything he can for the organization, averaging 24 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists throughout that time.
However, in recent times, the relationship hasn't been perfect, and with the team struggling following the changes they've made, it's safe to say that there's been more speculation than ever over his future. After all the talk over the summer, Antetokounmpo started the year in Milwaukee, but according to ESPN analyst Brian Windhorst, the overwhelming expectation now around the league is that a deal could be happening in the near future.
“It's almost like a couple that everybody in the league thinks is going to get divorced. They don't know if they are going to get divorced by Easter or if they are going to get divorced by July 4, but in the league, the teams do believe this is gonna be a divorce.”
As Windhorst mentions, it's unclear whether or not the break comes ahead of the trade deadline or in the summer, but given the Bucks' struggles right now, it's likely time for them to make a change.

Ultimately, Giannis has had incredible success in Milwaukee, but for now, it's simply time for a split, and while he would love to be a Buck for life, with years left in his NBA career, it would best serve him and the team to break things up now.
