Ja Morant and Coach Iisalo Are Barely Speaking During Games

Things don’t seem to be going too well in Memphis. Especially between the Grizzlies’ star point guard, Ja Morant, and the new coaching staff. There have been multiple reports and murmurs that the coaches and Morant don’t seem to be on the same page, and there are some who believe Morant’s time in Memphis may be heading to an end.

NBA reporter Kelly Iko shared some new information on what is going on in Memphis.

“Memphis, much like Houston, is also in the process of learning a new system, but Morant’s body language, which was lacking at a somber morning shootaround, was off all evening. Outside of a mini briefing midway through the fourth quarter with the game already out of reach, Morant didn’t speak to Iisalo. During timeouts, Morant would be off to himself at either end of the bench, swimming in his own thoughts. There were no reassuring handshakes or taps from Iisalo whenever Morant was subbed out, the tension palpable within Fedex Forum.”

When your best player is barely speaking to the coach, that is a huge issue. No team can be successful without those two pieces communicating and working together for the better of the team.

Can Morant and Iisalo make amends and turn things around in Memphis? They might need to if the Grizzlies are going to have a chance at competing this season. If they can’t? Well, it would make sense that either the coach or Morant would need to go. Otherwise, it just seems like there is too much tension for the team to be productive at this point.
