Former Warrior and NBA Champion Names His Warriors All-Time Starting 5

The Golden State Warriors went from being one of the least successful franchises of all time to one of the most. You can thank Stephen Curry for that franchise turnaround. While the Warriors of the 2010s and 2020s will go down as one of the greatest dynasties in basketball history, how many players from those teams deserve to be on the Warriors' All-Time starting five?

Former Warriors center and three-time NBA champion JaVale McGee was recently asked who made up the Warriors' greatest starting five of all time.

He named Curry, Klay Thompson, Andre Iguodala, Draymond Green, and himself to the list.

Besides McGee at the five, this list isn’t all off the mark. Curry, Thompson, and Green are shoe-ins. Not only will they all be basketball Hall of Famers, but they each played over a decade for the Warriors and brought the franchise from the bottom of the league to the top. Four championships add to their résumé as well.

Iguodala was also part of those four championships and was a key piece. That being said, his presence as a leader will probably be remembered a little bit more than his dominance on the court.

The missing pieces in this list are the other Warriors’ greats. At the center position, you have to have Wilt Chamberlain or Nate Thurmond. If you want to go more modern, then it’s Andrew Bogut who gets the honor. Sorry JaVale.

Kevin Durant is a difficult player to place. He obviously is one of the greatest players ever, and has two Finals MVPs in Golden State. Still, he only played for the team for a few seasons, making his legacy there a bit shaky.

Rick Barry should probably take his spot in the starting lineup. Barry was the leader of the 1975 NBA Champion Warriors and is a basketball Hall of Famer.

So JaVale’s list of the greatest Warriors starting five of all-time was pretty close. We think it should be Curry, Thompson, Barry, Green, and Chamberlain.
