Danny Green Reacts To Chris Paul's Release: "You Send Him Home Like A Child"
Dec 4, 2025
During his playing career in the NBA, Danny Green shared the court with Chris Paul in several intense postseason moments. As a veteran of the sport, Green made his voice heard after news broke of Paul’s shocking release from the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday.
Appearing on “NBA Today,” Green (who now works as an analyst for ESPN) expressed his disappointment with the Clippers’ overnight move. Like many fans, the former San Antonio Spurs guard questioned the decision of the Clippers organization to release Paul, who had announced that he would be retiring at the end of this season.
“I’m a bit confused. More than a bit. I just don’t understand,” Green said. “You couldn’t have had a conversation?”
Green, who had playoff battles with the Point God during Paul’s first Clippers stint in the early 2010s, made it clear that the Clips crossed a line. “Everybody knows who Chris Paul is. He’s one of the most decorated, one of the best point guards in the history of our game. And you send him home like he’s a child.”
In the wee hours of Wednesday, CP3 posted on Instagram that he’d been abruptly sent home by the Clippers. Not long after this, ESPN received a text from Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank that Paul had indeed been let go by the team.
This move is an anticlimactic end to Paul’s second go-round with the Clippers. In 16 games with the team, the 40-year-old veteran averaged 2.9 ppg, 1.8 rpg, and 3.3 apg in less than 15 minutes of play.

Though Paul has been nowhere near an impactful player on the court these past few seasons, his legacy has nevertheless been cemented. Paul’s Hall of Fame resume includes 11 All-NBA selections, 12 All-Star nods, and a spot on the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team.
It remains to be seen whether CP3 will be joining another team in the near future or commencing his retirement ahead of schedule. For one of his former playoff adversaries, Paul should not have been compelled to make this difficult choice in the first place.
“For you to treat him this bad…it’s very bad on the Clippers organization,” Green added.
