NBA Insider Believes Miami Has to Trade For Giannis Now

The Miami Heat have always been a team that hunts the league’s biggest stars. Ever since they paired LeBron James and Chris Bosh with Dwayne Wade, they’ve consistently been in the news looking to get other potentially available stars on the trade market.

John Hollinger of The Athletic reported that he believes if the Heat are going to land a star, it needs to be now.

“Can we talk about Miami? It’s been seven years since Butler signed with the Heat and Miami hasn’t been able to poach a single “name” player since. The Heat are muddling with a roster that isn’t good enough to do anything of significance, have no young player with obvious star upside, and can’t create significant cap room for two more years…. But if they could pair Giannis with Bam, Powell, Herro, is that something?… Miami could get there by getting Charlotte to change the protection on the Rozier pick to be unprotected in 2028, and send the Bucks 1st in 2026, 2030, and 2032. Along with promising big man Kel’el Ware, Andrew Wiggins, Rozier contract and possibly Nikola Jovic.”

While the Butler signing was the last big move the Heat made, they don’t have a championship to show from it.

If the Heat want to get back to their championship-winning ways, getting Giannis is their easiest path. That’s why the Heat need to put all their assets on the table to land Giannis. Top-5 players rarely become available, and the Heat are luckily in a place where they could actually get one.

So, now is not the time to negotiate or penny pinch. For the Heat, now is the time to go all-in. Giannis might not be getable this offseason, so the Heat should strike while they can.
