The Warriors Are Reportedly Renewing Talks With Jonathan Kuminga
Aug 21, 2025
The Golden State Warriors have reportedly renewed negotiations with forward Jonathan Kuminga and are attempting to sign him to a short-term deal.

Much of the dust around the NBA offseason has settled, but there are still multiple restricted free agents who have yet to sign an agreement with either their previous team or a new one. Jonathan Kuminga has been a member of the Warriors since 2021.
The Warriors would certainly like to hang on to Kuminga. He has developed into an important rotation player. While he only started 10 games for Golden State last year, he still played 24 minutes a game and averaged 15.3 points per game to go along with 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists.
ESPN's Anthony Slater laid out the situation during a recent video interview. He explained:
"Now, if you’re talking about a three-year deal, if you’re talking about something with a player option that shows him a little bit more commitment, that’s something he’d be interested in. But as of now, the Warriors have been hesitant to do that, and because of that, Kuminga is signaling to those around him that he’s very willing – and prefers – (to sign) the qualifying offer over the two-year, $45MM deal. That’s dangerous for the Warriors. They can try to call his bluff, but right now, it seems to be trending toward the qualifying off
There is certainly interest in Kuminga, though any other team would have to not only give him an impressive contract but also give up assets. The situation should come to a resolution soon.
