Report: Celtics Seeking Trade to Get Younger and Cheaper

The Boston Celtics have torn down a championship-caliber team this summer, dealing away Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holliday. But the team isn't done dealing, according to sources, and they will look for more deals that will make their team younger and less expensive.

Just a few months ago, the Celtics were hoping to build a dynasty around their mix of young studs and veteran stars. But an Achilles injury suffered by Jayson Tatum in the playoffs changed everything. Tatum will now be out for nearly a year, and when he returns, the team will look much different.

In trading Porzingis, and Holliday, the Celtics got in return several assets, including shooting guard Anfernee Simons. Simons has been a strong scorer in Portland and is coming off a season where he averaged 19.3 points. He is also a marksman, shooting 36.1% from the three-point line and 90.2% from the free throw line.

According to Bleacher Report's Jake Fischer, Simons isn't in Boston's future plans. The reporter said in a recent livestream, "The Celtics remain active on the trade market as they try to get their roster younger and cheaper."

In addition, Fischer noted that the team is looking to move on from both Simons and Georges Niang, who they acquired in the Porzingis deal. Niang is a 32-year-old power forward who has been in the league since 2016.

There is no playbook for how the Celtics should deal with a devastating injury to their best player. But it seems like the team will prioritize building the best team possible for Tatum's return rather than trying to compete for a title this year.
