Philadelphia 76ers Rising Star Shuts Down Any Interest In The NBA Slam Dunk Contest

The Philadelphia 76ers have one of the youngest and most exciting cores in the NBA, and with the team sitting at 23–18 on the season, they're certainly considered a dark horse in the wide-open Eastern Conference. While all eyes go immediately to Tyrese Maxey, first-round pick VJ Edgecombe has been a star for this team immediately, and together, this is one of the most exciting backcourts in the entire league.

In his rookie campaign thus far, Edgecombe has appeared in 37 games, averaging 15.6 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists per game, and given his athleticism, it's easy to see why he's seen as a key piece of the team's future. That athleticism has also made some around the league look to him for a potential role in the 2026 Slam Dunk Contest, as the belief is that he would be a favorite if he joined the event.

That topic was recently brought up to Edgecombe, and with very little hesitation, he revealed that he has no interest at all in doing it.

“I ain't doing that. Nah, I'm good.”

As of right now, it's unclear whether Edgecombe never intends to participate or if it's simply his rookie year that he doesn't want to do it, but given his athleticism, it would be a letdown for NBA fans to never see him in the event.

Ultimately, there are many other young stars ready to step up onto the NBA Slam Dunk Contest stage, and if Edgecombe doesn't do it, there are many others that will relish the opportunity.
