NBA Reportedly Discussing A New Tournament Idea To Combat Tanking

The NBA has seen plenty of changes under Commissioner Adam Silver, and while some aren't fans of his work, others believe the league has changed and improved over his tenure in charge. The biggest change of all under Silver has been the implementation of the NBA Cup, with the Commissioner looking to put an added emphasis on the regular season.

Now, a tournament may be a solution to another problem the league is having, as Silver and the NBA's front office look to put an end to blatant tanking from teams. According to new reports, Silver and the league are considering a tournament between the bottom teams in the league to determine draft order moving forward.

On paper, it's a solid idea, but given that play-in teams have won the last two draft lotteries, with the bad teams not being able to get better due to their draft standing, this would not be much of an improvement to their situations. Some may point to this making teams try to be competitive, and while there may be no perfect solution to the tanking issue, it's safe to say that this isn't the solution that will help one of the leagues biggest problems.

Ultimately, tanking has always been a part of the NBA and professional sports as a whole, and that's a result of the draft process to begin with, so while the league may be discussing ideas to combat this, ultimately, things may never be able to be fixed.
