Chris Paul Officially Announces His Retirement From The NBA

This season was supposed to be a grand send off for Chris Paul, with the veteran point guard joining the Los Angles Clippers once more as they looked to pursue an NBA Championship. Unfortunately, for both CP3 and the Clippers, things didn't go that way, and after agreeing to buy him out, he was free to choose whichever team he wanted.

In a shock turn of events however, he has now taken to social media, officially announcing his retirement from the NBA after more than two decades.

Back in 2005, Paul was the No. 4 overall pick for the New Orleans Hornets, and in that time, he would go on to play 1,370 regular season games with New Orleans, Los Angeles, Houston, Oklahoma City, Phoenix, Golden State, San Antonio and eventually the Clippers again.

In that time, CP3 averaged 16 points, 9 assists, 4 rebounds and 2 steals per game, solidifying himself as one of the greatest point guards in the history of the game. He was never able to capture an NBA Championship, and while many believed he could return and help a team this season, he believed it was time to call it quits after an incredible career on the floor.

Ultimately, given the lack of playoff success, CP3's reputation will be very different among fans, as some have him top-five in league history at the point guard position, while others have him outside that range. He'll be remembered fondly by many however, and now, we wait to see what the future holds for CP3.
