Minnesota Timberwolves Set To Retire The Jersey Of A Franchise Icon

The Minnesota Timberwolves have been in the NBA since 1989, but since that point, they've struggled to house many superstars or lead to much success in the NBA Playoffs. Right now, they've got the likes of Anthony Edwards, Julius Randle, and Rudy Gobert leading the way, with many believing they could be a dark horse to make a run in the 2025–26 postseason.

However, the biggest star in franchise history remains Kevin Garnett, who won the 2004 MVP with the team, as well as posting 15 All-Star appearances between Minnesota and Boston. While there was little playoff success during his tenure with the Timberwolves, he's still the biggest star they've ever had, and now, they're rewarding him as such.

According to reports, KG is now officially going to have his jersey retired, as that No. 21 is going to hang in the rafters forever in Minnesota following his 14-year tenure with the organization.

On top of that, Shams Charania has revealed that KG is rejoining the T-Wolves organization in an all-encompassing role that once again makes him the face of the franchise, this time off the floor.

Both of these things have been a long time coming, as many expected all of this to happen years ago after he finished his NBA career with the team back in 2015–16. Only time will tell how effective KG will be in his new role, but given all that he gave to the team and the city during his tenure, this is a long-overdue honour.
