Major Disconnect: This Viral Clip Captures The Warriors' Issues In A Nutshell
Apr 7, 2026
There was once a time when the Golden State Warriors were borderline invincible. They ran an impeccable system on both ends of the floor, and at the height of their powers, pundits were already proclaiming them NBA champions even before the season began.
Now, in 2026, the Warriors are in shambles. Even as their cornerstones advanced in age and became more vulnerable to injuries, their pipeline of young talent hasn’t given fans enough reason to be confident about the future.
In other words, there isn’t anyone on the roster who can boldly say, “I got next.” A viral clip from this past weekend demonstrates this.
The clip shows Warriors main man Stephen Curry bringing the ball into the frontcourt with less than eight seconds left in regulation. His team was down 117-116 to the Houston Rockets, and he had to make something happen.
Wanting to help his longtime teammate, Draymond Green moved into position to set a screen for Curry. As Green did so, he motioned to Warriors guard Brandin Podziemski to set another screen so that Curry could get even more space to launch a shot. For one reason or another, Podziemski did not do as Green asked; even with Green’s pick, Curry barely had room to operate, eventually launching a contested three that hit the back of the rim.
As the Rockets celebrated their victory, Green emphatically motioned to Podziemski that he should have set the screen. Meanwhile, a dejected Curry hung his head and walked away.
Unfortunately for the Warriors, this scene represents the bigger problem that they’ve been dealing with in terms of their talent pool. The old guard of Curry and Green could only go so far before age, injuries, and even opposing teams caught up with them. It was (and is) the responsibility of the front office and the coaching staff to prepare a fresh set of stalwarts who would gradually take over the team.

The problem is, Warriors fans will look around the roster and see no such stalwarts. As ambitious as Podziemski has been, publicly declaring in the past that he wants to inherit the mantle from Curry, he has not quite ascended to All-Star status. Moses Moody is in for a long recovery period after his gruesome knee injury, and his fellow 2021 draft pick, Jonathan Kuminga, isn’t even on the team anymore.
Curry and Green have done all they could for this franchise. Now, as they come to terms with the twilight of their respective careers, their frustration from losing grows tenfold as they deal with the dearth of ready, mature players who can continue what they started.
There’s a major disconnect in Golden State, and unlike the bridge on the Warriors’ jerseys, the transition from one point (the past) to another (the future) is unfortunately flimsy.
