LeBron James Could Retire This Off-Season And Pivot To Major Career Change

At 41-years of age, LeBron James has been in the NBA for 23 seasons now, and while he's still a very solid contributor, it's clear that time is running out on one of the greatest basketball careers that we've ever seen. This summer, he's set to be a free agent after a solid stint with the Los Angeles Lakers, and for the most part, the expectation around the NBA is that he goes for one, final goodbye season with another team, rumored to be the Cleveland Cavaliers.

However, there is another option, and with James set to be 42-years of age during the 2026/27 season, retirement has started to become a true possibility for James. Now, a report from Bleacher Report's Eric Pincus has revealed that if he does go that route, James is set to spearhead the Vegas expansion into the NBA, with this season a true possibility to be James' last in the league.

On paper, having James as the face of the new Vegas franchise given recent speculation on expansion in the NBA would be the perfect move, and while not all star players transition into a successful front office career, it's worth a shot for the league and LeBron.

Ultimately, LeBron's career is coming to an end one way or another, and if the league is intent on an expansion franchise in Las Vegas, if they get the opportunity to put him at the center of it, it's a move that makes sense for everyone involved.
