"I Don't Know If He's Ever Going To Win A Title": Chris Broussard Shares Grim Outlook On Luka Doncic's Future
Feb 24, 2026
As celebrated as Luka Doncic is, he still has a huge monkey to get off his back as critics point to the lack of an NBA title on his resume. One analyst has gone so far as to suggest that Doncic might never win the big one for the rest of his career.
Appearing on Monday’s episode of Fox Sports 1’s “The Herd,” Chris Broussard shared a grim vision for the future of the Los Angeles Lakers superstar. “I don’t know if he’s ever going to win a championship,” Broussard claimed.
This wasn’t ignorant trolling. According to Broussard, he’d been feeling this way after watching Doncic over the past several weeks. “It’s not because he’s not individually good enough. It’s because of the way he plays,” the “First Things First” co-host explained. “He is so hard to build around because he’s so ball-dominant.”
To Broussard’s point, Doncic is notorious for needing the ball in his hands for the vast majority of possessions in any given game. For better or for worse, he played this way when he spent the first six and a half seasons of his career in Dallas. When news of his monumental trade to the Lakers first broke in February 2025, some skeptics wondered how Doncic would be able to co-exist on the floor with LeBron James, who is accustomed to an abundance of possessions as well.

Broussard went on to compare and contrast Doncic with other elite players who frequently had the ball in their hands. “Steve Nash and Chris Paul, they were ball-dominant but they were pass-first guys. LeBron, when he was in his prime and ball-dominant, it was a challenge to build around him…We’ve seen it with James Harden throughout his career.”
Though he believes that roster construction around Doncic is tough, Brou thinks that there’s a formula that could work for the Lakers. “They’re gonna have to basically scrap this team, keep Austin Reaves and a few others, [and get] shooters and athletes that can defend, and rebounders.”
With LBJ still around in Tinseltown as he winds down his career, it seems that the Lakers can’t pull the trigger yet on a comprehensive rebuild centered on Doncic. If there’s a front office and a city that can lure just about any type of player on their wishlist, it’s Los Angeles. But they’ll have to make their moves in the near future, or Doncic will continue to fall short of his first-ever NBA championship.
