Los Angeles Clippers Reportedly Set To Avoid Punishment in the Kawhi Leonard Saga

For years now, the Los Angeles Clippers have been battling to get out of the shadow of the Lakers in LA, and in recent times, things have looked rather promising. From landing the duo of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George to a brand new, state of the art arena, things have looked good, but unfortunately, this is a team that simply can't get out of its own way.

This past summer, we saw the most damning controversy for the organization yet, when ESPN's Pablo Torre revealed an under-the-table deal involving Kawhi Leonard that could rock the entire NBA. There's been no punishment yet, and while nothing is confirmed, a new report has now revealed that rather than punishing the organization, the NBA could be looking to punish Leonard, letting the franchise off without an issue.

“A lot of rumors of the Clippers thing about to come down. I heard it’s gonna be Kawhi-centric…The rumors I’ve heard is that it’s gonna be less about the Clippers and more about what’s gonna happen to Kawhi’s contract.”

That's not to say that the Clippers won't feel any sting from a punishment, but given their role in the saga, punishing the player over the team would be a ridiculous move from the league.

Ultimately, someone needs to face punishment if the internal NBA investigation was as damning as Torre's reports, and while Leonard will face some punishment, it would be very unfair of the NBA to punish him and not the team as well.
