Trae Young Shows Love to His Former Team

A lot of people thought that Trae Young might play his whole career in Atlanta. After the Hawks drafted him in 2018, it seemed like a match made in heaven. Young made four All-Star teams during his time with the Hawks and helped lead them to their most successful playoff run since the 1960s.

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and over the last couple of seasons, the Hawks organization and Trae Young have been drifting apart. This led them to trade their franchise star point guard during this season’s NBA trade deadline.

Young recently returned to Atlanta when his new team, the Washington Wizards, faced the Hawks. Young is still injured and unable to suit up, but the Atlanta fans still showed their appreciation and love for their former star. Young was asked what he thought about being back in Atlanta and said, “I just wanted the Hawks fans to know how much I love and appreciate them …Getting drafted, obviously the (draft night) trade … I still found a way to make a name for myself, make a name for my team and try to put this city on the map where people were talking about us. You can’t do that without the fans. The fans showed us so much love throughout the years that I was here, even the years that we was down. It felt like there was still a lot of love. So, I’ve got so much love for this city and these fans.”

It’s always nice when a team and a star can part ways without any bad blood. Young probably knew that it was time for him to start the next chapter of his career, and the Hawks were looking to pivot the direction of their franchise. It seems like the type of superstar trade that could end up working out for both sides.
