JJ Redick Talks About Lakers' Team Meeting Amid Losing Stretch

The Los Angeles Lakers have been struggling lately. After a blazing hot start to the season, they’ve slowed down a bit lately and are starting to show some of their weaknesses. As of Monday, they are 20–10, the fourth seed in the Western Conference, which is pretty good considering how competitive the West is.

However, they are 5–5 in their last 10 games and just haven’t looked the same since the return of LeBron James.

JJ Redick was livid after a recent Lakers loss and demonstratively stated that, come practice over the weekend, some tough love was going to go down. After the practice, this is what JJ had to say about what happened.

“Recalibration and reconnection,” Redick said about the focus of the practice. “I think too, today, for myself, I’m always gonna look in the mirror first. I think it’s easy as a player or coach to say, “Well, it’s this guy’s fault, or we’re not doing this because of X, Y, and we had a great meeting as a staff this morning, came in super early, and met with the players. It was very positive. And it was also listening. For our staff and myself to listen to the players and what they need.”

Everyone was expecting Redick to yell at his players for a lack of defensive effort. This isn’t what Redick did at all. Instead, he looked at how he could be better as a coach, something that most coaches struggle to do.

This is the advantage of having a coach who so recently played himself. JJ can take lessons he learned just within the last few years and apply them to the Lakers right now.
