Former Star Rashard Lewis Joining Spurs Coaching Staff

Rashard Lewis, a long-time star in the National Basketball Association, has reached and agreement to become a member of the player development staff for the San Antonio Spurs.

The news was revealed by the Spurs who issued a press release which read:

The San Antonio Spurs today announced additions and promotions within the team's coaching starff. The Spurs have added Sean Sweeney as associate head coach and Corliss Williamson and Scott King as assistant coaches. In addition, Tim Martin joins the Spurs as assistant coach/player development, with Jimmy Baron and Josh Brannon who are being promoted to assistant coach/player development as well. Joining the Spurs player development staff is Rashard Lewis, while Andrew Weatherman becomes a coaching analyst and Madison Clower will serve as player development analyst."

Lewis was one of many players during the late 1990s to early 2000s to make the jump straight from high school directly to the NBA. He was drafted in the second round by the Seattle Supersonics and would soon develop into one of the best shooting big men in the league.

The power forward was named to two All-Star games during his seventeen year NBA career, spent mostly with the Sonics and the Magic, though he did win a title with the Miami Heat in 2013. For his career, he averaged 14.9 points a game and grabbed 5.2 rebounds.

Since retiring from the league in 2014, he has remained active on the basketball scene by playing in the Big 3 Basketball League, nearly winning a championship with the 3 Headed Monsters.
