Could This Magic Star Get Their Coach Fired?
Mar 5, 2026
In today’s NBA, everything revolves around the stars. There is nobody with more power in a franchise than a superstar. Some superstars wield that power recklessly, getting coaches fired or players traded that they don’t like. Others are more tactical and collaborative with their opinions. Still getting what they want, but causing fewer waves in the process.
Right now, we are seeing a bit of a public disagreement between a star and their coach. The Orlando Magic have been struggling all season long, and recently, coach Jamahl Mosley and star forward Paolo Banchero had a public disagreement on strategy and play style.

Kendrick Perkins spoke up about the disagreement, saying that Banchero could end up being the reason that Mosley gets fired.
“When you get to the point and we are this late in the season. This is not the first time this season that he has quote-unquote, like publicly called out his head coach in the media. Like when you say we don’t make adjustments, who are you talking to? Sure not talking about your teammates. You’re talking about your coach. Do I feel like Jamahl Mosley should be fired? [Expletive] no. Do I feel like Paolo Banchero took a step back this year, hell yeah.”
While the Magic might be having trouble making in-game adjustments, Banchero might not be playing well enough to be complaining about it. Banchero’s scoring is down from 25.9 points per game last season to just 22.1 this season. More importantly, as the star and leader of the Magic, he hasn’t even been able to lead them out of the Play-In Tournament in the standings.
The Magic might need to make some coaching changes, but Banchero is probably not good enough to be the one asking for them.
